When placed on a compatible controller, they unlock in-game content, bonuses, or playable characters. After launch, the feature expanded quickly across dozens of Nintendo titles and beloved franchises worldwide.

The Nintendo 64 controller was among the first home console controllers to include an analogue stick. One specific launch title used it to offer players complete 360-degree movement inside a three-dimensional world. That approach changed expectations for how console games could be played and designed going forward.

Before any console reaches retail shelves, it carries a working codename used privately by developers and engineers throughout production. Nintendo has used such internal names across its hardware history. The Switch went through its full development cycle under one such name before being officially revealed.

Not every Nintendo arcade release from the early 1980s became a household classic. Some titles featured entirely original characters built around simple but addictive gameplay concepts. This particular game put players in charge of an exterminator tasked with fighting off insect swarms across a series of greenhouse-themed stages.
