One member of the Gemini family was designed specifically to run on-device without relying on cloud processing. This makes it useful in situations with limited connectivity. It powers features on certain Android smartphones, offering fast, private responses by processing everything locally on the device itself.

Accessing Gemini's most capable version requires a paid subscription offered through Google's storage and services bundle. The plan sits at the top tier of Google's consumer offering, combining cloud storage with access to advanced AI features across Gmail, Docs, and other Google products for a monthly fee.

To demonstrate its capabilities, Gemini Ultra was evaluated on a well-known academic test that covers 57 different subjects, from mathematics to medicine and law. Scoring above the average human expert on this test was seen as a significant milestone and was central to Google's launch announcements.
