The New York Stock Exchange experienced one of its most significant interruptions to trading in 2001 due to a catastrophic event that struck New York City. The exchange remained closed for several consecutive days as the city dealt with the immediate aftermath, marking the longest closure the exchange had seen in nearly 90 years.
