CEMEX was founded in 1906 and grew from a small regional producer into one of the world's largest building materials companies. Its home country is in North America and shares a long border with the United States. CEMEX's global expansion took it across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the broader Middle East region.

This was a significant move in modernising how the construction sector procures materials, cutting reliance on phone orders and manual processes across CEMEX's global operations.

CEMEX listed its shares in the United States to access a deeper pool of international capital and increase visibility among global investors. It trades on one of the two major American stock exchanges in the form of American Depositary Shares (ADS), a standard structure commonly used by large foreign corporations seeking US market access.

The Rinker acquisition was one of CEMEX's most significant deals, giving it a major presence in Australian and American construction materials markets. Rinker was a large producer of aggregates, concrete, and pipes. The takeover was completed after a contested process and involved a transaction valued at several billion US dollars.

Beyond cement and ready-mix concrete, CEMEX operates a third core segment supplying a fundamental raw material used in road construction, concrete production, and land development. This involves extraction and processing of naturally occurring materials from quarries and open pits, and it forms a vital part of any large construction project.
